Scientific publications as a part of the conservation program
After thirteen years of the Western Derby eland conservation program, a new international publication was born: Western Derby eland (Taurotragus derbianus derbianus) Conservation Strategy. This strategy was published as the main output of the international workshop that was held in Senegal in January of this year and includes specific goals and activities leading to conservation of the Western Derby eland.
The publication also summarizes the existing knowledge of the Western Derby eland including its expansion in the past and today, the potential threats for today’s population and an overview of current activities. The Western Derby eland studbook of the captive population in the reserves Bandia and Fathala is integral part of the publication. The strategy is written in English and French. You download the whole book under this link.

The last year’s publication African Studbook: Western Derby eland, Taurotragus derbianus derbianus (GRAY, 1847) has got the Rector’s award of the best publication output of the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague in October 2013. We appreciate this award very much and we hope that the Conservation Strategy will bring more positive feedback not only at our university in Prague, but also abroad.
